About the JPG to PNG
JPG throws data away every time it is saved. That is a reasonable trade for a photograph you will never touch again, and a bad one for an image you are still working on. Each edit-and-resave cycle compounds the artefacts until edges go blocky and flat colour picks up a faint mottle. Converting to PNG stops that clock: PNG is lossless, so from the moment you convert, nothing further is discarded no matter how many times you save.
The other reason to convert is transparency. JPG has no alpha channel at all, so a logo exported as JPG arrives with a white box around it. PNG supports transparency properly, which is why it is the format asked for by nearly every website, app store and print house for anything that is not a photograph.
One honest caveat. Converting cannot restore detail that JPG compression already destroyed. If your source is a heavily compressed image, PNG preserves it faithfully, artefacts included, and simply stops adding more. Expect the file to grow, sometimes considerably, because lossless compression cannot match what JPG achieves by discarding information.
