Pick a ratio if you need a fixed shape, then drag inside the box to move it and pull the corner handles to resize.

About the Image Cropper

Cropping is the edit people need most and the one that is hardest to get to. Phone galleries crop but will not hold a precise ratio; desktop editors hold the ratio but take a minute to open; most web croppers upload your photo to a server before showing you a single handle. This one draws the image straight into the page, gives you a frame you can drag and resize, and cuts the file when you say so.

The ratio buttons matter more than they look. A profile picture that is not square gets centre-cropped by the platform, usually through someone's chin. A 16:9 lock gives you a thumbnail that fills a video player with no black bars. A 4:5 crop is the tallest shape Instagram will show in full, so it takes the most space in a feed. Picking the ratio before you frame the shot means the platform never has to guess.

Whatever you drag is what you get: the crop box is measured in the image's real pixels, not the scaled-down preview, so a 4000px photo is cut at full resolution rather than the size it happened to be displayed at. JPGs come back as JPGs and PNGs keep their transparency. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and there is no limit on how many images you run through it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop an image online?
Upload your image, drag the crop box over the part you want to keep, then click Crop image. Use the ratio buttons first if you need an exact shape like square or 16:9.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping itself only removes pixels, so the part you keep is untouched. PNGs stay lossless; JPGs are re-encoded at high quality, which is visually identical for a single edit.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
