About the PDF to Text

Copying text out of a PDF is unreasonably difficult. Select a paragraph in a reader and you often get line breaks in the wrong places, columns interleaved, or nothing at all because the selection tool is disabled. Copying a whole document a page at a time is worse.

This pulls the text content out of every page at once and hands it to you as plain text you can copy in one click. The typical uses are practical: quoting from a report, feeding a document into a translator or an AI tool, searching a file your reader refuses to search, or moving content into a word processor without dragging the formatting along with it.

One thing to be clear about: this reads text that is actually stored in the PDF. A document produced by a word processor, an export or a report generator has real text and comes out cleanly. A scanned page is a photograph of text — there is nothing to extract, and pulling words out of it needs optical character recognition rather than extraction. If the result comes back empty, that is almost always why. Everything runs in your browser, so the document is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract text from a PDF?
Upload the file, click Extract text, then click Copy text to put the result on your clipboard.
Why is no text extracted from my PDF?
The pages are almost certainly scanned images rather than real text. Extracting words from a scan needs OCR, which is a different process.
Does it keep the original formatting?
No. You get plain text, which is usually the point — it drops the layout so you can paste the content cleanly elsewhere.
