About the Add Watermark to PDF

A watermark is a label that survives being printed, forwarded and photocopied. Marking a document DRAFT stops an early version being quoted as final. CONFIDENTIAL sets an expectation before anyone reads the first line. A client name across a proposal makes it obvious where a leaked copy came from.

The value is that it cannot be missed and cannot be separated from the content. A note in a covering email is gone the moment the attachment is forwarded on its own; a line on the first page is invisible from page two onwards. Text laid across every page travels with the document wherever it ends up.

You choose the wording, so it can be a status, an organisation, a recipient's name or a date. It is drawn lightly enough that the underlying text stays readable, which is the difference between a document that is marked and one that is ruined. The pages themselves are not re-rendered, so text stays selectable and searchable. Everything runs in your browser, which matters here more than usual — the documents worth watermarking are rarely ones you want to upload to a stranger's server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I watermark a PDF?
Upload the file, type the text you want across the pages, then click Download PDF. It is applied to every page.
Will the watermark make the text hard to read?
No. It is drawn lightly so the content underneath stays readable while the mark is still clearly visible.
Can the watermark be removed by the recipient?
It is drawn onto the pages rather than stored as a removable layer, so it cannot be switched off in a normal reader.
