About the Meta Tag Generator
Meta tags are the part of a page nobody sees and search engines read first. The title tag is the blue link in the results and the single strongest on-page signal you control. The description does not affect ranking directly but decides whether anyone clicks, which affects everything downstream. Get either wrong and a page that deserves traffic quietly does not get it.
The recurring mistake is length. Google measures titles and descriptions in pixels, not characters, and cuts them mid-sentence when they run long — so a carefully written description ends with an ellipsis exactly where the reason to click was. Writing them in a code editor gives you no sense of that until the page is live and it is too late to matter for the first crawl.
This builds the full block from what you type: the title and description, the canonical URL that tells search engines which version of a page is authoritative, and the social image that decides what a shared link looks like in a message. Getting the canonical right matters more than it sounds — duplicate URLs competing with each other is one of the most common reasons a site underperforms. Copy the output straight into your page head.
Frequently asked questions
- How long should a title tag be?
- Aim for roughly 50-60 characters. Google truncates by pixel width, so shorter titles with the keyword near the front survive intact.
- How long should a meta description be?
- Around 140-160 characters. Longer ones get cut off, usually right where the reason to click was.
- What does the canonical tag do?
- It tells search engines which URL is the authoritative version of a page, so duplicates do not compete with each other in the index.
