About the Social Media Image Resizer
Every platform crops differently, and the crop is always applied by the platform rather than by you. An image sized for a Facebook post gets its edges cut off as an Instagram square; a landscape photo becomes a letterbox in a Story. Uploading at the recommended dimensions is how you decide what stays in frame instead of letting an algorithm decide for you.
It also protects quality. Every network re-compresses what you upload, and it does far more damage when it has to resample a 4000px photo down to 1080 at the same time. Handing it an image already at the right size means the only thing it has to do is compress, and the result is visibly sharper — most obviously on text, logos and fine detail.
The presets here are the dimensions each platform publishes, covering Instagram posts, portraits and Stories, Facebook feed posts and covers, X posts and headers, LinkedIn posts and banners, YouTube thumbnails and channel art, Pinterest pins and WhatsApp status. Fill and crop centres your image and fills the frame; fit and pad keeps the whole image and adds a background colour, which is the safer choice when nothing can be cut. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts and unreleased campaign art never leave your device.
Frequently asked questions
- What size should an Instagram post be?
- 1080x1080 for a square, 1080x1350 for a portrait and 1080x1920 for a Story or Reel. All three are presets here.
- What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
- 1280x720, a 16:9 frame. That is YouTube's recommended size and the preset used here.
- Why does my image look blurry after uploading?
- The platform resampled and re-compressed it at once. Uploading at the exact recommended size removes the resampling step and keeps the result much sharper.
