Convert JPG to WebP

Convert JPG images to WebP and cut file size substantially.

How to use the JPG to WebP

  1. Add your JPG

Drag a JPG onto the drop zone or click to browse for one.

  2. Choose a quality level

Try 75-80% first. WebP holds detail better than JPG at the same number, so you can usually go lower than you expect.

  3. Download the WebP

Click Download .webp and compare the size against the original before you publish it.

About the JPG to WebP

WebP exists for one reason: the same picture, meaningfully smaller. At matched visual quality a WebP is typically 25 to 35 percent lighter than the JPG it came from, and on a page carrying twenty images that is the difference between a site that feels instant and one that does not. Every current browser supports it, and Google's own page-speed tooling asks for it by name.

The usual reason to convert is Largest Contentful Paint. It is the slowest of the Core Web Vitals to fix because it is usually one large hero image, and shrinking that image is the most direct fix available. Converting your existing JPGs is often the entire job — no redesign, no new hosting, just smaller files at the same dimensions.

The quality slider behaves differently from JPG's, so it is worth experimenting: WebP holds up noticeably better at aggressive settings, and 75-80% frequently looks like an original that would need 90% as a JPG. Keep the original JPGs somewhere. WebP is right for the web and still occasionally wrong for a print shop or an older desktop application. Conversion runs entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no file limit.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller is WebP than JPG?
Usually 25-35% smaller at the same visual quality, and more on images with flat areas or gradients. The exact saving depends on the picture.
Do all browsers support WebP?
Yes. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and every current mobile browser support WebP. Only genuinely old browsers need a JPG fallback.
Will converting to WebP hurt SEO?
The opposite. Smaller images improve Largest Contentful Paint, which is a Core Web Vital and a ranking signal. Google's own tools recommend WebP.
