About the Barcode Generator

Barcodes are the plumbing of physical inventory, and generating them should not require a subscription to a warehouse management suite. This tool produces standards-compliant barcodes in the symbologies that actually get used: CODE128 and CODE39 for internal tracking, EAN-13 and EAN-8 for retail products, UPC-A for North American retail, and several others besides.

Which format you need depends on where the barcode is going. CODE128 is the sensible default for anything internal, such as asset tags, shelf labels, stock bins or library items, because it encodes letters and numbers and packs them densely. EAN-13 and UPC-A are the formats a supermarket checkout expects, but they encode a registered product number, so you need a real GS1-issued code rather than an invented one if the item will be sold through retail.

The output is generated as a clean, high-contrast image that stays scannable at print size. Barcodes are rendered in your browser, so the product codes and internal reference numbers you type are never uploaded, and there is no limit on how many you generate.
